I mean, a DD! Wow! Holy crap! It's not something I would have expected and it just blew me away!
Add to that, the most amazing comments left by complete strangers... You blow my mind.
I wanted to say thank you, and also to explain why it's taken me so long to do this! No joke, this is the best month ever.
REALLY LONG CONVOLUTED STORY AHEAD. BEWARE POSSIBLE TEXTWALL.
SUMMARY: I got a new house to move into a few days after getting the DD, so I've been rushed off my feet organising everything to move my shit across a city. HOUSE IS AWESOME, HOUSEMATES INSANE AND ARTY. WILL BE FUN.
Ok, so the story starts off with me looking for a new place right? I discover a site called gumtree.com which is like, a dating site for anything you could ever need, in whatever city. Including accomodation.
"we are 2 20something year old women looking for a housemate, must like cats, contact via email"
That kind of thing.
I've been searching around because my house is full of people (and I mean full. 7 people mate)
Not looking hard, just doing my lazy thing, do a couple of other things on the net.
I posted my picture around Friday, noted ^StJoan and told her with much gushing about how totally awesome and godly she is with a pen, that I had drawn something based off her work, and I hope she likes it!
Then, omg! I'm in her journal, how cool! Then omg, a GD comments it! HOW AWESOME! Then all these awesome awesome members of the community who I secretly worship are saying they like my drawing! I am totally stoked and blown away. I ring my mum and do a dance. It is highly likely I went to bed grinning.
Well the next day, the 28th I find this house, massive write up something along the lines of "we are architecture students, and I write my own music, he draws alot. We really don't want a boring person, please call us if you are into art or music or SOMETHING. must like techno"
It immediatley caught my eye.
I went "these guys sound like fun, i too am over boring housemates, and a muso and an artist sound like just my kind of people! Bonus points if they're cute too!" I promptly emailed them, telling them I was an artist, and a bit about me.
A few emails were exchanged in which I finally mentioned my dealbreaker "Is a snake in the house ok with you guys?" A resounding yes was received along with a phone number, and so was gutsing myself up to call them.
Then suddenly I can't. I'm getting a whole pile of messages, this is unusual but good so I start happily replying.
Them BAM! DD!
Holy shit, I swear to the gods every person in brisbane heard me singing and screaming.
I ring my mum again, and also message every single person on my msn babbling incoherently.
Seriously, I didn't think I would ever get one, and I can't explain how happy it made me that other people like my art! And that they understood what I was saying!
So then I had to calm down enough (it took several hours) to call Darren. He speaks very fast so I don't think he noticed the weird half-scream I was emitting due to containing my excitement. "come over on monday and check the place out. We will see if we can live with you"
How awesome is that!
I spent the rest of the weekend happily replying to everything and generally basking in the attention from my screen.
Monday I do the work thing, and then bring Liza along with me (my anti-psycho device)to what has to have been the strangest house inspection I've ever done. I was so nervous I think my blush glowed in the dark, and we stayed for around an hour, talking and laughing about shit like I'd known these guys in the womb.
I was quizzed heavily with questions such as
what is your favourite colour?
what kind of beer do you prefer?
What is the capital of pakistan (I got that one wrong)
Would it be a problem if Levi came home in the middle of the night with an X-man in his underwear?
and would I allow a meth-amphetamine lab to be made in my name to pay the electricity bill?
I decided I would go well with these folk, and left with a promise of a phone call.
I got called that night, with more questions (answered to a room full of people on speakerphone) and a "YOU GOT THE ROOM MOVE IN IN 3 WEEKS PLZ KTHXBYE"
SO, that is what I have been doing, and why I have not appeared on DA since then, I've been organising a house move, involving changing all my bank details, superannuation, electoral role and trying to get in contact with the government department that deals with protected wildlife so they can change the licensing address on my thing that says I can legally keep snakes!
MUCH WORK.
But I've put it off too long (the 800 or so messages in my inbox are a bit daunting)
So here it is:
$chix0r is awesome, ^StJoan is awesome, all the people who commented on me are awesome and I love you all!
You gave me a fucking kick ass award for a peice of work that actually means a great deal to me. You couldn't have done anything better! I was worried I might have been a bit too open with my thoughts after I submitted it, and that it might be a bit too personal, but through the publicity you guys at the AR team have given me I see that I'm not the only one who felt like that. And that maybe I might have inspired someone else to get the confidence to see themselves the way I now see myself.
You guys, the AR team and every single person who has ever helped me out on da, even by saying that you like my drawing, are unbelievably awesome.
Now, I have some more packing to do, so I can move into this (dare I say it) awesome house this weekend!
Love from your oddball

Hope it's okay (:
