To some people it will never matter if you have a beautiful soul, who you really are, or even if you have a pretty face. Those people will only see your faults; a scar, a twist or a lump where there should be none.
To be judged on purely the physical aspect of yourself is bad enough, but to be shunned and alienated for a fault which has no bearing on your nature is painful.
When perfection is worshiped imperfection is despised. To be judged imperfect is to be forsaken.
This work is a portrait of my own imperfections and the ostracism and isolation that came with being deemed imperfect in a place where fashionable conformity turns people into facsimiles of each other, unthinking and without identity.
Those who judged on flawlessness were as butterflies, the same, with only a frail veneer of perfection so easily shattered.
Deemed imperfect by them, judged to be defective, flawed, inadequate, they never got close enough to me to see who I really was behind the faults.

Acrylic on canvases. the long one is about 160cm tall (my hight) so figure the rest of the dimensions from there.

This is my major work for my HSC, or my final year of high school. I managed to get into the top 3% of the whole state and now it is going on tour in the ARTEXPRESS exhibition

I put my heart and soul into this work, it is very personal to me, both in its concept and of itself, as i taught myself how to paint on these very canvasses. i didn't have time to learn before it was due. still, it took me months.
It cannot be altered so any criticism you may have, please let it be for future reference, where it can actually be used!

PS: there are 210 butterflies, all hand painted. no stencilling at all.

EDIT I changed the photoshopping background colour, coz quite frankly the green looked really bad. white looks alot better. When I get the professional pictures from ArtExpress i will use them, because they're going to make it look good!
This work was recently displayed in the windows of David Jones, in elizabeth street sydney as part of the ArtExpress exhibition, and will also be in the Grafton regional gallery from the 30th of May till the 1st of July, and in the Orange Regional galery from the 20th of July till the 26th of August 2007 go see it if you're around
